I reached out to a good friend of mine this week — Pete Wargent — for a chat about the economy, property market, and overview of what to expect as we progress through the next two years.
Pete is a well-established finance and property guru in Australia.
A British national — he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in London and was previously a Director at the ‘Big Four’ accounting firm Deloitte. He’s also a 6-times published finance author.
I’ve known Pete for many years, and it was an absolute pleasure to have him on the show and enter into a conversation on the macro-economic outlook for Australia and get his opinion on where property and stock markets are heading.
We touched on a broad range of subjects, including:
- A breakdown of the macro outlook
- What to expect in property markets from state to state
- Are we still potentially looking at a boom through the final two years or has the outlook changed?
- Where the opportunities are in the commercial market — and REITs
- How this cycle differs from the one that took us into the early 1990s downturn
- The continued trend to escape government control post COVID, and how this is playing out in markets
- Crazy climate change politics
- Hikes on taxes for short-term lets — will it free up rental accommodation?
- How fundamentals in the market are pointing towards our forecast peak in 2026
- The advantages of home-schooling (yes, we even veered into this topic!)
And much more!
It was a really entertaining conversation.
Tune in and take a listen — there’s no small talk — we get straight down to the nitty gritty.
I think you’ll really enjoy the conversation!
(By the way! You can follow Pete on Twitter here and while you’re at it — feel free to follow me also!)
Sincerely,
Catherine Cashmore,
